It seems fans of Fares and his work won’t have to wait long to see what the popular industry figure is up to next, however, as the mind behind A Way Out teased that his and Hazelight’s next project will be unveiled at EA Play later this week. Of course, fans have known for a while that the eccentric developer would be revealing his new project soon, with Fares hinting on Twitter last month that he was preparing to present his newest work.

As for what Fares is actually working on, there’s very little to speculate on in terms of general hints. The developer himself merely tweeted “A short tease about the next game on #EAPlayLive 18 june. Don’t miss it,” leaving fans wondering what on earth this new project might be. Knowing Fares’ track record, it seems likely the game is an original idea, with the developer working on two wildly different IPs in Brothers and A Way Out. Yet, some have posited that they’d definitely be interested in a spiritual sequel to A Way Out, perhaps taking the central co-op mechanic and using it to tell a different story. After all, it’s rare to see games focus so heavily on split-screen multiplayer, with A Way Out delivering a couch co-op experience unlike any other currently on the market.
Regardless, it seems Fares’ work will be joining a strong selection of other titles at EA Play if the rumors are to be believed. According to many, fans could possibly see some new Star Wars content, the announcement of a UFC sequel, and the reveal of the next Need for Speed game. EA clearly has a lot of titles to unveil in the lead up to the release of the next-generation consoles, so fans can expect quite a show.
Whatever Josef Fares’ game is, it seems likely that it’ll utilize next-generation hardware, so perhaps the addition of an SSD for unparalleled loading times and enhanced visuals has given the developer some brand new ideas. After all, Fares’ games have always played around with typical video game conventions, and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will hopefully offer even more liberty to play around with a wholly unique concept.
