The last week has not seen the brilliance of the game, David Nalbandian smashing the advertising board during the Final of the Aegon Championships, injuring a linesman in the process. Though it may not have been intentional, to see such an experienced player losing his cool only sends out a bad message to the world.

If that was not enough, the Indian Tennis fans have had their share of disappointment over the past week . The past week had had the media in a frenzy with the outburst of Indian Tennis players not wanting to put to bed their indifference proving to be fodder for the press. All that would be put to rest for the next two weeks as the best players in the world fight it out on the greatest stage of them all to be crowned Wimbledon Champions – SW19 is the place to be at.

This year, fans will get a second chance to see their favourite stars in action as the players will return to London donning their country’s jerseys at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in September. A good show at Wimbledon would stand them in good stead for the London Olympics. This would be an extra motivation for the players to do well at Wimbledon.

Defending Champion Novak Djokovic will start his Wimbledon defence against Juan Carlos Ferrero. Ferrero, the 2003 French Open Champion and a Former World No.1 will not be a pushover. While he may not be the same player today as he was during his younger days, Ferrero has the experience of playing and beating World Number Ones. Djokovic would take Ferrero lightly at his own peril.

Rafael Nadal, fresh from winning another French Open title in Paris, will start his quest for a third Wimbledon title against Thomas Bellucci of Brazil in a clash of lefties and the six-time Wimbledon Champion would be looking to create history and join Pete Sampras with seven Wimbledon Titles.

Roger has not won a Grand Slam since Australian Open 2010, but on grass he is as formidable as anyone and would be a force to reckon with.

However, all eyes will be on the home favourite Andy Murray, who would be looking to end his Grand Slam jinx. Andy Murray has faltered in the last hurdle numerous times in the past and the British media and the fans would love to see a man from their shores lift the prestigious Wimbledon trophy. What better way to open your Grand Slam account than in front of your home crowd? But Andy would have to fight all the way to get through the Final as he has probably got the toughest draw among the top four. A potential 2nd round clash between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut looms large too. The first week promises to be more exciting than one could have ever thought.

Looking forward to a fortnight of rollicking fun. May the excitement leave us spell-bound!
